Reel Homework — by djEnterprises
Last Updated: July 11, 2026
djEnterprises ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Reel Homework: What to Watch mobile application ("Reel Homework," the "App"), a personalized movie & TV critic that gives any title a 0–100 Match Score for your taste and includes an AI companion. This Privacy Policy describes exactly what information the App handles, how it is collected, every way it is used, who receives it, and the controls you have. The short version: we require no account, we never sell your data or use it to track you, your taste profile lives on your device, and nothing is sent to the AI service until you explicitly consent in the App.
1. Information the App Collects and Processes
The App is local-first: your taste profile, ratings, chat history, and saved items are stored on your device. When — and only when — you use an AI feature (chat, Match Score, "Viewer's Homework," or profile generation) after giving consent, the following is transmitted off your device to produce that result:
- Your taste profile summary — the genres, tones, and likes/dislikes you selected, plus any free-text notes and long-term "memory" you chose to add, so the AI can personalize scores and replies.
- Your chat messages — the questions you type, and questions you speak using the optional voice-input feature (the transcribed text is sent the same way as typed text), plus up to your most recent messages so the AI can follow the conversation.
- The title being scored or discussed — its public catalog identifier and metadata (name, year, type) when you request a Match Score or ask about a title.
- Chat settings — your selected critic personality/tone, spoiler preference, and reply language, used to shape the response.
To show posters, search results, and title details, the App also queries The Movie Database (TMDB) with the titles you search for. Nothing is transmitted to the AI service before you accept the in-app consent disclosure shown before your first AI use.
The App does not collect: your email address or phone number, your location, device or advertising identifiers, account credentials (no account exists), in-app usage analytics, photos (there is no photo upload anywhere in the App), or payment information (subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple).
Our relay server keeps standard, short-lived technical request logs (an anonymous app token, timestamp, and message token counts for security and cost monitoring). The content of your messages is never written to our server's logs and is not stored on our servers.
2. Taste-Compare — How "Compare With a Friend" Handles Your Data
The App lets you compare your taste with a friend's. This feature is computed entirely on each person's device: when you create an invite, your taste tags and headline are encoded inside the link or QR code itself and shared only with whomever you choose to send it. When you open a friend's link, the Taste Match is calculated locally on your device. Taste-compare sends nothing to our servers, to the AI service, or to any third party. The shared link contains only taste tags and your chosen headline — no name, email, or any other identifier.
3. How That Information Is Used — All Uses
- Generating AI results — your taste summary, message, recent history, title metadata, and chat settings are used solely to produce the Match Score, reply, or homework you asked for.
- Personalization — your taste profile and remembered notes tailor scores and answers to you. They are stored on your device.
- Service protection — anonymous technical request logs prevent abuse and monitor service costs.
There are no other uses. We do not use your data for advertising, tracking, profiling, analytics, or sale to anyone.
4. Who Receives Your Data — Third-Party Services
- Anthropic (Claude API) — receives and processes your taste summary, chat messages, and title metadata to generate scores and replies. Anthropic acts solely as a data processor for this App and does not train its models on content submitted through its API. Anthropic automatically deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, as described in its Privacy Policy and Commercial Terms.
- The Movie Database (TMDB) — receives the titles you search for in order to return catalog metadata and poster images. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See the TMDB Privacy Policy.
- Apple — handles your subscription purchase (we never see payment details). If you use voice input, your speech is transcribed by Apple's speech-recognition service under Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Railway — hosts our relay server. Railway provides infrastructure only and does not access or process your personal data on our behalf.
We have confirmed that each third party with whom the App shares user data provides the same or equal protection of user data as stated in this policy. No other third party receives your data, and we never sell or rent any user data.
5. Your Consent — and How to Revoke It
Before your first AI request is sent, the App shows a disclosure that explains what is sent and who receives it. Declining keeps the rest of the App usable. You can reset this consent and your AI data at any time in the App's Settings; afterward the App will not send anything to the AI service unless you agree again.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- djEnterprises servers — your message content is processed transiently to relay your request and is not retained after the reply is delivered. Anonymous technical request logs (no message content) are kept briefly for security and cost monitoring.
- Anthropic — see Section 4; API content is not used for training and is automatically deleted within 30 days.
- Your device — your taste profile, ratings, chat history, and saved items are stored locally. Delete them anytime in Settings or by uninstalling the App.
There is no account to delete because no account is ever created.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us and we will take prompt action.
8. Security
All communication between the App, our relay server, and Anthropic uses HTTPS encryption. Our Anthropic API key is never stored in the App — it lives only in secure environment variables on our server. We follow industry-standard security practices in our infrastructure.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
